The Maidens Lighthouses, on the Maidens off the County Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, date from 1829 and were built at the request of merchants and a Royal Navy officer to mark these perilous rocks that have deceived many ships over the centuries. Lighthouses were built on both rocks, the West Maiden was abandoned in 1903 and the East Maiden was automated in 1977.

The location is well known by local fishermen due to the amount of ship wrecks that lie on the sea floor. Also loved by deep sea divers who have plenty of interesting shipwrecks and marine life to study. This contemporary illustration dramatises the old and new lighthouses and their isolation out in the North Channel.
