Whooper Swan Birds of Ireland card
Birds of Ireland cards by Róisín Mallon Art – Whooper Swan
From Róisín Mallon Art comes a series of cards ‘Birds of Ireland’ in an artful collaboration with Irish writer Brian Devine. Featuring Róisín’s artwork on the front and a unique verse by Brian on the back.
Brian Devine – Whooper swan: The Children of Lir (more correctly Lear since “Lir” is the genitive case of Lear) is one of Ireland’s early stories. Whooper swans are wild; the Mute swans of our canals are voiceless and domesticated. A saying in Irish suggests the worst sin is jealousy – possibly because it may lead to other sins. Here, the envy of Aoife led to her exiling the four and attempting to quell their whistleblowing by changing them to birds. The poem celebrates the perseverance of all whistle blowers who win through, despite being handicapped by what may be termed the unique “guilt” of innocents. (From above, Lough Derravaragh’s outline suggests a swan in flight.)
Crafted with care on premium 350gsm card, these cards measure 14 x 14cm, providing ample space inside for you to write any message you want. Made in Northern Ireland.
